CIRMA's Firefighter Accident Insurance program provides accident benefits over and above statutory Workers' Compensation benefits. All CIRMA Workers' Compensation pool member emergency volunteers and paid firefighters, EMTs, trainees, and auxiliary personnel, even deputized bystanders, are covered under this premier program. In addition, members of boards of directors or trustees of emergency organizations are covered under the program. Coverage is also provided for "Good Samaritans" while they are assisting a fire service organization. CIRMA's Firefighter Accident Insurance Program is provided at no additional direct cost by CIRMA to its Workers' Compensation Pool members' fire and rescue volunteers. Download coverage flyer.
Although the chance of an accidental death is actually very small, emergency responders feel secure knowing that their families will be provided for under this program. Beneficiaries receive a full $200,000 for a death resulting from an accident or from a covered illness contracted on duty. Up to $50,000 of the death benefit payment may be accelerated for a person diagnosed with a terminal condition. A seat belt benefit provides an additional $20,000 if the insured is killed while wearing a seat belt.
Because accidents are much more likely to result in an injury, CIRMA's program provides a range of innovative and comprehensive benefits that will see the injured firefighter or EMT through recovery and rehabilitation.
The program features automatic cost-of-living adjustments that are calculated annually, protecting insureds and their families from inflation.
CIRMA's program pays medical expenses that are not otherwise covered by a Workers' Compensation policy. Unlike some other policies, coverage includes cosmetic reconstructive surgery for burns up to $200,000 -- no matter the location on the body.
After the injury
The program's disability coverage provides hospital indemnity, educational benefits, home and auto modification, and Beneficiary Assist(R) benefits.
