CIRMA is seeking a Liability Claims Supervisor to provide technical oversight, guidance, and direction for assigned staff. This position supports the philosophy and goals of the Liability Claims Department through appropriate technical and procedural supervision. This individual will be responsible for the overall performance and results of the unit, providing direction for daily workflow and training needs.

Sounds Good? Here’s what we’re looking for:
- Review all new claim notices submitted by members. Ensure each new or existing claim is assigned the correct policy, coverage, and exposure for a thorough investigation
- Lead claim file quality assurance strategy; document and communicate findings to assigned adjusters, and provide additional training and monitoring when appropriate
- Implement and maintain a systematic diary to ensure timely follow-up on assigned claims
- Regularly review adjuster files to confirm compliance with CIRMA standards for coverage, investigation, documentation, liability, evaluations, reserving, subrogation, negotiations, and closure
- Review and approve reserve recommendations exceeding adjusters’ authority level. Work with manager to establish appropriate reserve and settlement authority limits
- Attend CIRMA Advisory Committees meetings where appropriate–present Liability-Auto-Property (LAP) settlement authority and trial requests to leadership
- Collaborate with internal departments for member claim reviews–work with the manager to manage and respond to the Connecticut Insurance Department
- Conduct claim roundtables for reserving, settlements, and establish appropriate plans of action
To be successful in this role, you’ll need to bring the following skills to the table:
- Thorough knowledge of local and state laws, regulations, and CIRMA policies and procedures related to the full claims management process, from initial investigation to final resolution–applicant should be able to apply and communicate this knowledge in supervisory duties
- Extensive knowledge of claims investigation techniques and the ability to effectively evaluate and administer training programs
- Effectively assess staffing needs and direct, motivate, evaluate, and train staff
- Ability to communicate technical, legal, and medical issues in a member-conscious style
- Ability to interpret industry manuals, technical, legal, and medical documents, and translate findings into non-technical jargon
You’ll also need the following attributes:
- Public entity insurance experience
- Property casualty insurance industry experience
- Strong litigation management experience
- At least 10 years of claims investigation/resolution experience
- Two years of supervisory experience
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business Administration or a related field.
- Pursuit of professional designations (e.g., AIC, CPCU, ARM, SCLA, etc.) is recommended
- Connecticut Adjuster’s License or a suitable license
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills to meet challenges with a high degree of ownership and delivery
