Learning Objectives

Swirling snow, icy roads, and poor visibility make snow removal one of your public works departments’ most difficult and dangerous jobs. Snowplow operators are tested when everyday traffic and long hours behind the wheel are added to the icy mix. Snow removal is one of your local government’s most critical public services. Everyone in the community, especially emergency rescue workers, counts on public works departments to clear roads quickly after winter storms.

This CIRMA training and education program thoroughly introduces safe snowplow operations to new operators. It is also a good refresher course for experienced drivers starting the season. The program discusses the many new technologies that have been recently developed to improve the safety and effectiveness of snowplow operations.

Training and education program topics include:

  • Preparing for a storm
  • Snowplow operations
  • Defensive driving
  • Spreading operations
  • New anti-icing technique
